Run. Eat. Repeat.

I'm Sophie, a 22 year old Londoner currently studying in Manchester. I have just got back from a year living in France where my love for food has been joined by a new-found lust for running.

This month has gone by pretty fast

And I haven’t tumbled once! This month I have:

1. Finished and handed in my dissertation (7700 words, 31 pages)

2. Had my last ever French oral exam!

3. Been loving yoga and telling everyone about it.

4. Been trying to ignore the fact that I have a 10k to run on Sunday (oh god)

5. Realised that the best thing about doing a French degree (thus being more or less fluent in French) is being able to make authentic tartes au citron from the original recipes.

6. Made many tartes au citron.

7. Not lost weight. At. All.

I vow to tumble more regularly! There will be pics of the 10k, je vous promets.

My housemate bullied me into going for a run

And as I succumb to peer-pressure far to easily, I went. First run in about 3 weeks. First half-mile or so was a struggle but I got into a rhythm and went 2.35miles at it.

Also, yoga is AMAZING. I am expecting to have Michelle Obama arms (Ob-arms-a?) by the end of the course. If there’s a course near you, DO IT!

I like making things from scratch - I know exactly what is in it, and it really doesn’t take that much time. I made an incredible pasta sauce today from scratch with leftover bits and bobs I had in the fridge/cupboard. Really simple but effective:

Half a tin of tomatoes, 1 tbsp tomato puree, half a yellow pepper, 2 cloves of garlic, some dried basil and chilli powder to taste: blitz in a blender until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

Heat in a pan and add cooked pasta to it (that’s the Italian way, apparently). If you’re anything like me you will then smother it in grated cheese and inhale the lot. You could totally add more bits to it, like more garlic, ham, chicken, mushrooms (after the blending stage) etc, but I didn’t have any to hand - I am in need of a trip to the supermarket!

I am registered on to an 8-week hatha yoga course

I start on Thursday. I’m excited! Need to get some calm and stretching into my life.

Dissertation is at 4,500 words (need 8,000 total).

10k training has stalled. Again.

Exams in 5 weeks. OH GOD.

Oh and I got a job for summer :D

Lent is over!

So I said from the beginning of the year that I wanted to go veggie for Lent, and I did (sort of!)

I knew that I was going to eat meat when I went on my trip to France (staying with a host family and French meat is just incredible) but between Ash Wednesday and my going to France on the 24th March I was veggie! I must admit cheating 3 times in that period but I am still really proud of myself - I ate meat at only 3 meals in 4 and a half weeks. Not bad! I didn’t lose any weight, but I did feel healthier.

Now that lent is over, I have begun eating meat again, of course. But I think I will reuse some of the recipes from my meat-free period, especially the soups, and I’m much more open to meat-free meals now. I even chose to have tofu in my Thai red curry the other day!

fitness-inspiration:

I know this has nothing to do with my fitness blog, but I had to reblog this. This, this, this is the truth about love.
You ask yourself everyday why are you alone? Has it ever crossed your mind that your ex boyfriend/girlfriend may be “the one”? Well… You throw them away, without REALLY trying to fix the problem.
Love isn’t “butterflies in your belly”, love isn’t all day, all night having fun, love isn’t any of that. That’s the excitement at the beginning of a relationship and then it fades away…
Love is understanding, having a shoulder to cry on, compromising, helping one an other, fighting (but never braking up), having really, really bad days and knowing that your loved one will be next to you… That’s love. Love has nothing to do with being in love :).
Not much people have that. But many people finds it and throws it away without knowing.

Been AWOL, sorry!

I haven’t tumbled in such a long time! Mostly due to having had a deadline which I left until the last minute and then going home for the weekend for my brother’s 25th birthday (I can’t believe he’s so old!)

Here’s a little update:

Weight has stayed the same, 148lbs

14 days meat-free (lent) - I have SO many recipes, you are all in for a treat.

Ran for 30 minutes last night as part of my 10k training pre-training (I’m training to prepare myself to train for a 10k… yeah…)

I lost and then found my passport so the trip to France on the 24th is going ahead.

That’s about it! Any recommendations of good veggie meals would be welcome, I’m running out of ideas.

What I ate for dinner last night: Sweet potato and coconut soup (click for recipe)
